Nhiều bạn thắc mắc không biết phải làm sao để nói tiếng Anh trôi chảy. Thì đây là một mẫu học nói thật tốt. Ông Bill này nói rât nhuyễn, và nghe rất tài. Nhưng nếu ta chú tâm vào cách ông phát âm và cấu trúc văn phạm trong các câu nói, thì thấy rằng ông phạm không biết bao nhiêu lỗi: không bao giờ đọc âm S, đánh sai dấu nhấn (interpreter), các động từ không chia, cách pronoun dùng sai, thế nhưng intonation của ông thật tốt; cho thấy intonation trong một ngôn ngữ quan trọng đến độ nào.

Tuy nhiên, dù ông nói sai và phát âm sai, thì người đối thoại luôn luôn feed back bằng cách lặp lại cho đúng để xác định mình đã hiểu. Từ đó ta cũng thấy ra những sai sót nào khiến người đối thoại không hiểu, và những sai sót nào không quan trọng. Nếu chúng ta nghe ông này nói mà chờ đợi những cấu trúc văn phạm và cách phát âm chuẩn, thì chắc sẽ không nghe rõ bằng người Mỹ kia.

Bill – But I wait for my friend 25 year, I don’t know what the hell (really?) when he be back
Danl – He’s never come back huh?

Bill – Yeah!

Bill – United State?
Danl – Yes, from Minnesota.

Danl – I’ve been here for 10 days.
Bill – 10 day?

Bill – When you go back United State?
Danl – Tomorrow.

Danl – American movies, yes, you learn the language
Bill – I lean (learn) myself
Danl – I see
Bill – I don’t have teacher.
Danl – You’re your own best teacher.
Bill – Yeah!
Danl – That’s great. OK! So! There! How old’re you?
Bill – Sixty.
Danl – Sixty!
Bill – I cannot a job.
Danl – I am fifty.
Bill – Fifty?
Danl – Yes!
Bill – Zen young brother!
Danl – Yes. Your younger brother.
Bill – I want a job. (yeah) But everybody say: Uh! Old man, get out of here!
Danl – Old man, yeah, you aren’t that old!
